NEWS ABOUT PARTNERS

 LANGUEDOC–ROUSSILLON REGION

As part of the Regional Plan for renewable energies and the fight against greenhouse gases, the Languedoc-Roussillon Region launched the first regional project invitation on photovoltaic energy connected to the network. This initiative intends to bring about model and innovative projects in terms of architectural integration of modules. Since the launch of this regional project invitation in 2005, 60 projects have been supported in this way by the Region, out of 92 projects submitted. These 60 projects represent an installed capacity of 1.25 Mwc (mega watts peak), or the equivalent in annual production of 1.45 Gwh (Giga watts per hour), which corresponds to a multiplication of more than three for installed capacity in Languedoc-Roussillon since 2005. These projects have benefited from financial support from the Region of up to 3.7 million Euros, which corresponds to an investment of 9.5 million Euros in the region. The Languedoc-Roussillon Region now belongs within the leading French Regions on the photovoltaic energy market for metropolitan areas.

 ALMEE (Lebanon)

The Lebanese Association for Energy Management and the Environment (ALMEE) participated, from 22 to 25 May of this year, at two important events in Cairo:
• The “Environment 2007” Fair, which was devoted this year to renewable energies, and in which particular attention was given to wind energy and solar thermal energy at mean and high temperatures.
• The Euro-Mediterranean Project Seminar “MEDENEC”, focussing on energy efficient buildings. Mr Tony Matar on this occasion presented the Euro-Mediterranean project, “REACT”, which intends to equip two sites (a hospital and a hotel) with an air conditioning system which operates using solar energy (absorption machine) and which is fully self sufficient.

The ALMEE will be attending ENERGAIA with a large delegation of partners (institutional, architects and research units). more +.

CAPEB (Confederation of Small Businesses in the Building Industry )

INTERVIEW
Jean LARDIN
Confederal President of CAPEB

How does CAPEB approach the market for sustainable development ?
CAPEB already plays a determining role in assisting craftsmen in preparing for the market for sustainable development. It actively participates in projects such as QUALISOL (thermal solar), QUALI’PV (photovoltaic solar), QUALIPAC (heat pumps, geothermics), QUALIBOIS (wood heating), some of which are brought together within the QUALIT’EnR association. CAPEB also works to facilitate the implementation, by craftsmen, of new thermal regulations. In addition, it has set up actions to offer craftsmen training in energy savings, which are likely to be financed by the “energy savings certificates” plan.

Is the sudden emergence of this market going to cause upheavals within businesses ?
Absolutely, the energy savings market is going to drastically change the organisation of certain craft businesses, which will have to meet it head on, so that they are not forcibly restricted to assuming the role of subcontractors to major agencies.

What campaigns have been organised ?
We must, through adapting signage, make it easy for the public to identify businesses in the craft industry involved in protecting the environment and, in particular, the development of renewable energies. We must also persuade partners (public authorities, local authorities, insurers,) to provide, without preconceived ideas or reluctance, assistance in the development of innovative technologies.

What key issues does the ENERGAIA Fair represent for the CAPEB ?
The participation of CAPEB in this Fair is witness to the commitment of all craft trades in the building industry to achieve the objectives for sustainable development. Craftsmen within the building trade are proud to contribute to the success of ENERGAÏA !

 JUWI

The Brandis photovoltaic station
Construction of the Brandis photovoltaic station (Eastern Germany) began in March 2007. This project, with a capacity of 40 MW and a surface area of 120 ha, is by far the largest photovoltaic solar station in the world. Construction will go on until mid 2009.

 URBASOLAR

URBASOLAR finalises in Montpellier (France) the largest building integrated photovoltaic station in the south of France.
This water-resistant photovoltaic membrane manufactured by SOLAR INTEGRATED and SIKA-SARNAFIL covers a logistics warehouse of 4 000 sq.m. Placed directly on top of insulating material, it is totally recyclable, and thus much kinder to the environment than conventional roofing materials (bitumen, PVC). Made of flexible amorphous silicon, this water resistant material weighs only 4.5 kg / sq.m and it is possible to walk on it. It is therefore particularly suitable for terraced roofing in logistics warehouses and work buildings. This photovoltaic roofing will produce more than 100 000 kWh / p.a., with energy consumption for the premises estimated at 65 000 kWh / p.a. It is therefore a building with positive energy, which falls within the framework of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and more generally towards sustainable development. In the same way, the insulation of the building meets standards which exceed 2005 thermal regulations; and the lighting and heating have been laid out in a general approach to energy management.
