Renewable energies and buildings

Build better to consume less

Optimising performance and improving energy efficiency, renewable energies are becoming an integral part of buildings and provide new solutions to energy problems.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region, at the cutting edge of this activity sector, relies on a large industrial infrastructure and the DERBI competitive cluster, “Renewable Energies in Industries and Building Trades”, which is recognised and approved by public authorities, and bringing together businesses, research bodies, collective organisations and universities.

The DERBI competitive cluster contributes, at national level, to the development of applied renewable energies in the building trade and the implementation of innovative technologies.

The CAPEB and the FFB, partners of ENERGAÏA 2007

CAPEB
Confederation of Craft Industries and Small Businesses in the Building Trade

Jean Lardin
Confederal President of CAPEB

How does the CAPEB approach the market for sustainable development ?
The CAPEB already plays a determining role in assisting craftsmen in preparing for the market for sustainable development. It actively participates in projects such as QUALISOL (thermal solar), QUALI’PV (photovoltaic solar), QUALIPAC (heat pumps, geothermics), QUALIBOIS (wood heating), some of which are brought together within the QUALIT’EnR association.
The CAPEB also works to facilitate the implementation, by craftsmen, of new thermal regulations. In addition, it has set up actions to offer craftsmen training in energy savings, which are likely to be financed by the “energy savings certificates” plan.

Is the sudden emergence of this market going to cause upheavals within businesses ?
Absolutely, the energy savings market is going to drastically change the organisation of certain craft businesses, which will have to meet it head on, so that they are not forcibly restricted to assuming the role of subcontractors to major agencies.

What campaigns have been organised ?
We must, through adapting signage, make it easy for the public to identify businesses in the craft industry involved in protecting the environment and, in particular, the development of renewable energies. We must also persuade partners (public authorities, local authorities, insurers,) to assist, without preconceived ideas or reluctance, in the assistance of innovative technologies

What challenges do the ENERGAÏA represent for the CAPEB ?
The participation of the CAPEB in this Fair is witness to the commitment of all craft trades in the building industry to achieve the objectives for sustainable development.
Craftsmen within the building trade are proud to contribute to the success of ENERGAÏA !

The French Building Federation (FFB)

Christian BAFFY,
President of the French Building Federation

Why is the French Building Federation a partner at the ENERGAÏA exhibition ?
How could we not be there? The development of renewable energies is inevitable. We are as much driven forward by the price increases in fossil energies as the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Alongside manufacturers, businesses have a major role to play. The French Building Federation is also a strong component in its “Saving Energy” plan of action.

What market is there for renewable energies ?
everyone knows, in the 80s. Within the context of a new energy deal, we all therefore must do all we can to ensure, this time, the sustainability of this rapid growth.
In the relative short term, this should be a mass market, as all new construction will be supplied by an energy mix made up partly by renewable energies (thermal solar, photovoltaic solar, wood energy, and also thermal energy from external air or ground).

How are renewable energies given their proper place ?
They must be put in the context of energy optimisation of buildings, new or old, which combines management of energy demand to turning towards renewable energies. Both are inseparable. I would like to add that there must be a high degree of professionalism, and enhanced by employers, manufacturers, engineers, and of course, businesses, as well as insurers and financiers.
